Originally from Caldwell, Idaho, AJ Schinkel is a freelance trumpeter in the Pacific Northwest who is becoming well known for his stylistic versatility and ability to perform in any setting. AJ studied formally at Boise State University under the instruction of Dr. Alex Noppe, Dr. Zach Buie, and Dr. Derek Ganong.

 

At Boise State University, AJ participated in virtually every ensemble offered and gained a wide range of experiences performing in many settings. Due to his abilities, AJ was tasked with leadership roles for all ensembles as section leader and principal player.

 

AJ has shared the stage with artists such as John Daversa, Bijon Watson, Tanya Darby, Wayne Bergeron, and others. While at Boise State University, AJ was a member of “Rippin’ Brass” where he gained professional performing experience while still in school. AJ currently plays trumpet for Lounge on Fire, in addition to various freelance engagements throughout the region.

 

Due to his varied skills and performing experiences, AJ is rapidly becoming an in-demand trumpet teacher in the Treasure valley. AJ’s professional goals include establishing a major freelance career that includes touring, recording, and performing in addition to having an impact on young trumpet students through a regular trumpet studio.
